Mental Health Therapist

Katisha Chaney, LMSW, LCDC-I, is a dedicated mental health professional and Project Manager with a passion for bridging the gap in mental wellness. A graduate of the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, Katisha brings over seven years of experience in the domestic violence field and a diverse professional background spanning non-profit, medical, and educational settings. In her current role as a Project Manager, she oversees the Harris County Early Childhood Resiliency Fund portfolio, where she manages 14 agencies integrating her expertise in mental health, community-based interventions, and systemic advocacy to support agencies in building capacity and sustainability to serve children and families affected by trauma. As a SocialEmotional Learning (SEL) Group Facilitator, she contracts with Craving for a Change, a nonprofit organization, to provide youth with practical tools to strengthen resilience and emotional regulation. Katisha also serves as a Field Instructor and Task Supervisor for graduate-level social work students, mentoring the next generation of practitioners and bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world practice. She has further expanded her expertise by earning her certification in Sport Social Work. Over the years, she has provided support to student-athletes in recreational, competitive, and elite levels, helping them navigate the intersections of performance, identity, and mental health. A published author of several mental wellness journals, Katisha continues to advocate for accessible, evidence-based resources that encourage reflection, healing, and growth. In addition to her LMSW, she has earned her LCDC-I (Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern) and completed specialized training in immigration evaluations, allowing the capacity to serve individuals and families navigating complex challenges. Looking ahead, Katisha’s goal is to launch a private practice specializing in the mental health of student-athletes, collaborating with athletes, coaches, and parents, while also creating a safe and supportive space for children and adolescents who are not involved in sports. When she is not leading programs, mentoring students, or facilitating growth spaces, Katisha spends time with her family, recharging through meaningful connection and joy. Her work is deeply rooted in a mission to uplift the mental wellness of vulnerable populations, promote ethical care, and empower children, families, and professionals through prevention, education, and resilience-building.
